Panama: criminalization of the Ngäbe
Submitted by WW4 Report on Sun, 12/03/2017 - 19:55

Ngäbe activists standing in front of the Barro Blanco dam site in June 2015. Three Ngäbe indigenous leaders are on trial in Panama, facing years in prison for blockading a dam construction site. The Barro Blanco Dam on the Tabasará River is now complete, flooding large areas of Ngäbe traditional land. The case is part of a growing pattern in Panama of using the courts to suppress environmentalist opposition. Tracy Barnett reports for Intercontinental Cry.
