New Yorkers march for Cajamarca

July 20 was an international day of action in solidarity with the struggle in Cajamarca, Peru, with protests registered from various cities around Europe and the Americas. In New York, some 30, mostly local Peruvians, held a vigil outside the Peruvian consulate on East 49th Street. Five were killed by security forces in protests in Cajamarca earlier that month, as a general strike to halt the US-backed Conga gold mine project continues.
