In Episode 93 [13] of the CounterVortex podcast [14], Bill Weinberg responds to the request from Patreon [15] subscriber and legendary folksinger Dave Lippman [16] to discuss the contemporary significance of anarchism. Weinberg cites recent examples [17] of an "anarcho-pragmatism" that aspires to libertarian socialism [18] but also works toward concrete victories in the here-and-now: the Zapatistas [19] in Mexico, piqueteros [20] in Argentina, the Rojava Kurds [21] and other liberatory elements [22] of the Syrian Revolution, and Occupy Wall Street [23] in New York. Since last year's Black Lives Matter uprising, anarchist ideas have started to enter mainstream discourse—such as calls for "decarceration [24]" and to abolish the police [25]. Weinberg also makes note of pointed criticisms of some contemporary anarchist thought from the Marxist-Humanists [26].
