Somalia's Sufi resistance: our readers write
Our July issue featured the story "Sufis and Neocons: the Global War on Terrorism's Strangest of Bedfellows" by Sarkis Pogossian, on US efforts to groom Sufis to counter the influence of jihadists in Pakistan and Somalia—where Sufis are already arming to resist the fundamentalist Shabab militia. Our multiple-choice July Extra Credit Exit Poll was: "Should the US arm Somalia's Sufis?" We received 6 votes. The results follow:
Yes, they are fighting for their lives and freedom. 0% (0 votes)
No, this would backfire and make them look like US pawns. 100% (6 votes)
No, the fundamentalist insurgents are heroic freedom fighters. 0% (0 votes)
Kill 'em all, let God sort it out. 0% (0 votes)
Who cares about Somalia anyway? 0% (0 votes)
So the winner is: No, this would backfire and make them look like US pawns.
We also posted the same poll on Daily Kos, where it received 23 votes:
Yes, they are fighting for their lives and freedom. (4 votes)
No, this would backfire and make them look like US pawns. (14 votes)
No, the fundamentalist insurgents are heroic freedom fighters. (2 votes)
Kill 'em all, let God sort it out. (1 votes)
Who cares about Somalia anyway? (1 votes)
So the winner again is: No, this would backfire and make them look like US pawns.
Now we'd like to ask: Why are you all reading Daily Kos and not World War 4 Report?
