In Episode 169 [16] of the CounterVortex podcast [17], Bill Weinberg discusses the move by the Kyiv City Council to name a street [18] after Nazi collaborator Volodymyr Kubiyovych [19], who was instrumental in forming the SS Galizien Division [20]. The plan was quashed [21] by Kyiv's mayor following protests from the Israeli ambassador—but not before internet tankies [22] exploited the affair to portray [23] Ukraine as a "Nazi state." Ironically, this came the same week that President Volodymyr Zelensky honored victims [24] of the Holocaust at the Babi Yar [25] memorial in Kyiv. The unseemly nostalgia [26] for Nazi collaborators who fought the Soviets in World War II is opposed by the leadership of Ukraine's Jewish community—who also vigorously repudiate [27] efforts by Kremlin propagandists to launder Putin's war of aggression and Nazi-like war crimes [34] as "denazification [28]." Russia's fascist pseudo-anti-fascism [29] is likewise repudiated by Ukraine's own bona fide left-wing anti-fascists, in groups such as the Solidarity Collectives [30], who now support the Ukrainian war effort [35] against the Russian aggression.
