18 Hours, Three Fatals
It was a treacherous 18-hour span in which three people died in separate crashes on Long Island's highways — and one family survived an ordeal on the LIE.Long Island averages less than one traffic death a day, but this time the accidents kept coming. First, a charter bus crashed on the Northern State Parkway in Roslyn Heights shortly before midnight Sunday. About 1 p.m. yesterday, a motorcyclist died in Holbrook. Shortly after, a tractor-trailer struck a disabled sport utility vehicle on the side of the Long Island Expressway, but a family of three survived the impact. And about 4 p.m., a teenager was killed when her SUV collided with a bus in Blue Point.
